California Background ScreeningIn September 2007, the California Veterinary Medical Board (CVMB) issued new rules allowing licensed veterinarians to provide direct or indirect supervision for registered technicians who administer controlled substances. A bill passed by the CA legislature expands this authority to include unregistered assistants. This bill becomes effective JANUARY 1, 2008. However, that law requires veterinarians who delegate to an unregistered assistant in any capacity, direct or indirect, must conduct background checks to ensure that person hasn’t been convicted of any felony drug charges.
